"Our usual produce includes: Fresh veg in season, cheeses, eggs, early potatoes. Fresh baking, bread, cakes, gluten free choices, potted plants, pottery, hand made crafts, cut flowers, hand knitted items, greetings cards, paintings, & cooked snacks. We also have, in season, fresh seafood, and cooked meat products.
There is often someone playing traditional music and sometimes face painting or other children's entertainment. The bar serves teas & coffees as well as the usual beverages. And if that's not enough to tempt you out, there is also the Sheep's Head peninsula to explore!"

In combination with it's official launch WWOOF Ireland are hosting a presentation on Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

CSA is a partnership between farmers and the local community, providing mutual benefits and reconnecting people to the land where their food is grown. Many CSA groups have been established in Ireland in recent years.

If want to know more this is a great opportunity to meet up with some well informed and experienced participants.

Presented by Sarah Fleming, Food Consultant, formally Slow Food International and GIY Ireland supported by a panel, Ollie Moore, Food and agriculture journalist and food researcher, John Dolan, local CSA operator, and Lily de Slyva, who also teaches about CSA.

WWOOF IRELAND Limited - LAUNCH of a new not for profit company -  30thMarch to 1st April - OUTLINE OF THE WEEKEND

Friday evening - arrivals from 17.00 onwards at Glensallagh Gardens for Registration  – details of how to get there will be emailed on booking.  An opportunity to socialise with the WWOOF Ireland Team and each other, meeting your ‘hosting’ Hosts if you have accommodation and selecting a ‘Trip’ for Saturday afternoon.

Saturday morning we meet  at Glensallagh Gardens again for coffee before we ‘launch’ into our Launching! with a brief outline of the new company and then an ‘Official’ launch by Sue Coppard, founder of WWOOF in 1972

This will be followed by a talk on  ‘Successful Hosting’ with opportunity for feedback and discussion -  introduced by Suzi Cahn of Carraig Dúlra and Wendy Nairn, host with WWOOF Ireland from the beginning!  After another break for Coffee we will have a presentation from Lily de Sylva, a farmer, gardener and teacher with 30 years experience also with Suzi, about the new Smallholders Centre for Ireland, based at Glenealy in Co. Wicklow

After lunch there will be the opportunity to choose from a list a variety of places and WWOOF Hosts locally to visit – guided walks that will include explorations of ponds, wetlands and permaculture, tree nurseries and native woodlands, also a wild food walk and visit to the WWOOF Ireland Office and a possible trip to Cape Clear to see Cleire goats.  There is also the local Folk museum where their amazing collection of old farm machinery can be seen – all these TBC and more details later!

Then in the evening we meet again at Glennsallagh Gardens for a Gala Celebration Dinner!  Followed by music – musicians bring instruments please! (and dancing?) to mark the Launch in a truly triumphant style! So on Sunday we will not reconvene until 10.30 (with more coffee which may be needed!), then a final input from everyone as to what they would like to see from the new company. After our closing addresses, we are hosting a more open meeting when we hope to welcome other local producers for a presentation on Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)  This will be made by Sarah Fleming, Food Consultant, formally Slow Food International and GIY Ireland supported by a panel, Ollie Moore, Food and agriculture journalist and food researcher, John Dolan, local CSA operator, and Lily de Slyva, who also teaches about CSA.

So as well as a celebration, this is going to be a very informative event with much debate and information relevant to many WWOOF hosts and WWOOFers and the opportunity for great networking – there are STILL some places, SO!
